October’s Imperfect Taco is here!

October 4th is National Taco Day!

We want to celebrate our favorite holiday with you! So, we’re giving YOU a FREE taco of the month for when you come to eat with us! Just follow us on Instagram (@eatpuesto) and mention the National Taco Day special to your server to enjoy the taco of the month on 10/4 for FREE!

A big shout out to Imperfect Produce, who we are working with to incorporate their fruits and veggies into our menu! The taco of the month at our San Diego and La Jolla location features their produce!

Taco of the Month

October’s taco brings a taste of fall with its roasted squash, braised greens in mojo de Ajo, queso enchilada, warm squash salsa, pepitas, and cilantro.

The squash is cooked in the oven at high heat to bring out those roasted, caramel flavors. The greens are blanched to maintain their bright greenness and then tossed on the hot plancha with mojo de Ajo. Queso enchilada is warmed on the plancha to achieve maximum melted magic. After all of that makes its way to the tortilla, it’s topped with warm salsa made from roasted squash, onions, and chipotle. Last but not least: pepitas and cilantro for garnish.

“Mojo” refers to a family of sauces native to Spain and Latin America, generally consisting of olive oil and peppers. With garlic, olive oil, and lime juice, ours is, in fact, closest to a Cuban mojo.

This taco is made in partnership with Imperfect Produce, a company that takes ugly-but-delicious produce from farms and delivers the rejects to consumers interested in reducing food waste. We’re committed to decreasing waste and look forward to continuing to work with our amigos at Imperfect Produce.

Margarita of the Month

October’s margarita is the El Doble Verde. This margarita is made with Fortaleza Blanco, Ancho Reyes Verde, fresh cucumber, Green Tobasco, and lime juice. It’s slightly spicy, slightly vegetal, and quite refreshing.

Ancho Reyes Verde is a chile poblano liqueur with sweetness balanced by heat and an intensely vegetal aroma. It’s made in Puebla in the style of a menjurje, a boozy brew concocted by artisans using local herbs, spices, and chiles.

Beneficiary of the Month

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is dedicated to fighting blood cancers, which represent the third leading cancer killer of Americans. Because there is no way to screen for most blood cancers, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is dedicated to finding cures, educating the public, and supporting patients and families.

Funds from our Horchata for a Cause program will go towards the Society’s Light The Night event. The motivation behind Light The Night is to bring light to the darkness of cancer through research and cures. Light The Night is a series of fundraising campaigns benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) funding of research to find blood cancer cures. Communities are brought together to celebrate those who are fighting the disease and to honor those who have been lost.
